I've successfully been able to build a linux "PVR" application and jukebox player using various open source software. And best of all, I can control all of them - including starting and stopping - using a remote control that came with my Pinnacle PCTV Pro capture card. A problem that has been plauging me, however, is that the client applications suddenly stops responding to the remote control. I think I have identified the cause. My setup is such that the PC output on my widescreen TV. This means the remote control receiver for my computer is pretty much next to the TV. From the logs I have been able to generate from lirc, it seems all lirc activity (meaning applications stop taking commands from the remote control) after I receive one or more message from lircd in the log file like these: Jan 27 01:53:53 james.kjeldahl.net lircd-0.6.5: timeout reading byte 1 I believe these appear sometimes when I use my TV remote (NOT the one I use for controlling the computer). It seems lircd captures signals meant for my TV, and then get stuck waiting for a "command completion" or something. I'm going to try to play with some timeouts and similar, but before I do that, does anybody have any similar experiences with solutions? Thanks in advance, Marius Kjeldahl |
