Help with hauppauge

Hello Lirc guru. I have problems making my remote work.

My config.
  kernel 2.4.2 , lirc-0.6.3pre5
  WinTV   Hauppauge  with remote.

 The kernel is compiled with i2c support.
  I compile and install lirc. All OK.
  I load the modules.   All OK.

everything OK until know.
I start lircd.

 But when I try to start any prog. which uses the remote I get at the
console (for ex xmms with lirc plugin)

   " unable to open port `/dev/lirc' (Device or resource busy)
      unable to open port `/dev/lirc' (Device or resource busy)
   "

in /var/log/lircd I get

 I'm totally puzzled and frustrated (the hour of the log is real and I
started at 22 hour). Please help.

PS: reply also directly to my address if is possible
PS: other stange thing the configure script of xawtv is not able to
detect lirc ( gives a message like lirc lib not found )
