SoundBlaster sb0540 USB irda reciever

Anyone have any experience with the creative sb0540 iRDA reciever? It's
recognized by lsusb on insert, but /dev/usb/eventX is not created, only
the "raw" device /dev/usb/hiddev0. When I cat /dev/usb/hiddev0 and press
buttons on my remote, nothing shows up, However, when the reciever is
unplugged, /dev/usb/hiddev0 disappears.

I'm running Ubuntu 8.10, and specified the Creative "SoundBlaster remote
Control Upgrade" model, the gui autofills the device with the correct
one one my system, /dev/usb/hiddev0.

I'm told that when my reciever is plugged in, the corresponding
"event" /dev node should have been created in /dev/ , not the "raw"
node.

I'm out of ideas, anyone else have something I can try?
