I'd bet the problem you're seeing is at least similar to the one I'm having. I have an AOpen XC cube ea65 running Kubuntu Edgy and I'm having an issue getting lirc up and running. I've downloaded the source deb, configured it for the ea65 driver, and done a make install. All seemed fine initially, but I've noticed that no /dev/lirc was created. Running lircd in nodaemon mode with driver=ea65 results in a failure to find /dev/lirc when irw tries to connect. lircd then segfaults (so irw returns to prompt without being able to see any input). I've tried creating /dev/lirc myself, and /dev/lirc0 etc., using mknod and setting the permissions myself, although I don't really understand what I'm doing there. dmesg doesn't appear to report any LIRC related failures. In /etc/lirc/hardware.conf I didn't add anything to the MODULES config parameter as the ea65 driver shouldn't require any additional kernel modules (unless I've misread something). I also tried with the DRIVER parameter both specified as ea65, and unspecified. One thing I did read was that it was possible that i2c_core might interfere with LIRC. I tried a modprobe -r i2c_core but as it's in use I couldn't unload it. Wasn't really sure how to proceed from there. The ir_common module isn't loading (not that it should be - just trying to rule it out as a possible cause). I'd appreciate any assistance as after several hours combinatorically applying the strategies in various installation guides I'm beginning to lose heart :-) Tom |
