lirc stopped in KDE but still OK in apps

    I've been using lirc 0.8.0 on a Kubuntu 6.10/MythTV box for quite
some time now with a MEGA180 Remote.  Everything still works as expected
for MythTV, MPlayer, etc., but has suddenly stopped working for KDE. 
irw output indicates everything is fine.  Any ideas why KDE would stop
accepting this input?
