So it's possible that I could upgrade lirc and have it start working? That's definitely worth a shot for me. I'm using 0.8.1 from FC6. I'm not using your script (dunno what yours looks like). Mine is more intelligent than anything else I found out there. I'd be glad to post it if anyone is currently using a script-based solution and wants to see it.
