After updating ubuntu edgy a few weeks ago, lircd isn't running. Based on google searches, this looks like an epidemic. When I run irw, lircd exits and says that it can't open /dev/lirc. Tracing lircd before running irw reveals: open("/dev/lirc", O_RDWR) = -1 ENODEV (No such device) The mode2 program does the same: open("/dev/lirc", O_RDONLY) = -1 ENODEV (No such device) write(2, "mode2: error opening /dev/lirc\n", 31mode2: error opening /dev/lirc) = 31 But alas, it exists: ~# ls -al /dev/lirc* crw-r--r-- 1 root root 61, 0 2007-01-22 23:18 /dev/lirc srw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 2007-01-22 23:44 /dev/lircd prw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 2007-01-22 23:18 /dev/lircm Major number 61, as it always was. So.. the character device isn't properly registered? I'm not sure how to check this in Linux.. /proc/modules says: 61 BaseRemoteCtl My loaded modules: lirc_mceusb2 14468 0 - Live 0xf8c8e000 lirc_dev 16484 1 lirc_mceusb2, Live 0xf8f01000 usbcore 134912 6 lirc_mceusb2,usb_storage,libusual,ehci_hcd,uhci_hcd, Live 0xf88fa000 I've tried compiling a few different versions and using the apt sources. All the result in the same error, since the kernel upgrade. 2.6.17-10-generic #2 SMP Tue Dec 5 22:28:26 UTC 2006 i686 GNU/Linux Ideas? Mythtv just isn't as fun without a remote :) Thanks, -Charlie |
