First, what gave you the impression that it would work with lirc? This is the first time I've heard of this receiver kit. If it's an equivalent of some other design that we've heard of, jaycar and silicon chip magazine aren't admitting it. Second, Lirc will be the least of your worries in your MythTV project if you don't make a paradigm shift in how you approach linux problems. Thrashing between distributions is no way to fix anything. it's just a waste of time and bandwidth. All distros have their advantages and their warts, just pick one you can live with and stick with it until you find a reason to switch to something else. Before you're done with this project, you'll have installed and possibly even compiled several packages that are not specifically for your distribution. Changing distributions won't particularly help you here. You will probably also end up building a custom kernel. You may have to rebuild lirc as well. This is the way we do things in linux land, and we like it that way. There's always someone willing to help a newbie who honestly wants to learn and do the work. If you don't think you'd enjoy that, ShowShifter will run you about 75aud. These commercially available receivers are known to work well with lirc: http://www.zapway.de/index1.htm http://www.irtrans.de/ http://www.evation.com/irman/ http://www.home-electro.com/ (possibly, ask here) http://irdeo.de/eremote.htm http://www.pcmak.pl/en/zawartosc_zestawu.php And these home-brew devices are known to work with lirc: http://usbirboy.sourceforge.net/ http://fly.cc.fer.hr/~mozgic/UIR/ http://users.skynet.be/sky50985/ http://caraca.sourceforge.net/ http://www.lirc.org/receivers.html |
