Hi Folks! Probably, you've seen the new website and the announce of a device driver for the "famous" SEGA LAN Adapter :) So, this email is for the guys who haven't visited the website for a while. I've written a device driver for the device mentioned above because I've ordered the wrong NIC from a japanese dealer (I souldn't burn the midnight oil and try to order someting :) and I didn't want to resell it or get it dusty because it was that expensive. Furthermore, it's a nice experience to write a driver and I want to express my gratitude to you guys for all your great work! Thank you! The driver can be found (Source code) http://www-public.tu-bs.de:8080/~y0018536/dc/src/lan_adapter-0_0_7.tar.bz2 (Patch for 2.4.19) http://www-public.tu-bs.de:8080/~y0018536/dc/src/lan_adapter-0.0.7-linuxsh-2.4.19.patch.tar.bz2 I'll check the driver in the linux-sh-dc repository in the next few days. Hi gang. I've worked at putting together a newer toolchain to base future work on. It's based on gcc-3.2.2, binutils-2.13.2.1 and uClibc-0.9.19. It's really just some tweaks to the uClibc toolchain build system. I'm aiming for building Gentoo packages for this when it starts to work properly. Get http://www.boblycat.org/~karltk/linuxdc/uClibc-builder-gcc-3.2.2.tar.gz Unpack, then do: APPS=$HOME/apps make (Set APPS to wherever you want the tools installed). However, as some of you may know, I do not currently have an internet connection at home, nor a working computer in my house, so all of this work has been done across ssh to a remote linux box; therefore I have not tested if this actually works in the real world. I get the toolchain to build a zImage that looks somewhat okay, and it produces a.out files which crash sh-uclibc-ldd, so there are a few hiccups to be solved. Adrian promised to send me diff against 2.4.20 vanilla so that I may test that the toolchain produces a valid zImage from a kernel tree we know works, but he's evidently too busy boozing again ;P If anybody could do a bit of testing and give me feedback as to whether or not this toolchain actually builds a zImage that boots, and if so, does it build any user-mode binaries that can be used for anything? (There is also uClibc-builder-gcc-3.2.tar.gz, which contain a few more gcc patches; I wonder how many of these we have to forward port). Kind regards, Karl T |

The kernel will use the nfs device as root (/dev/nfs) and look for /bin/init on it (or whatever you init= setting is). The caveats being you having NFS support in the kernel, and the IPs configured correctly. Use tcpdump or other diagnostics (nfs log) to see if you actually have a request from the DC at boot. You have to set three kernel parameters: root=/dev/nfs nfsroot=[<server-ip>:]<root-dir>[,<nfs-options>] ip=<client-ip>:<server-ip>:<gw-ip>:<netmask>:<hostname>:<device>:<autoconf> It is fully documented in the kernel's Documentation/nfsroot.txt. In my experience, it's best to start with static IPs all over the place, then migrate over to BOOTP once you have things working. Kind regards, Karl T |

It is theoretically possible to tweak the video resolution to approx 800x600. Not entirely certain what impact that has on the hw accel, really don't think it should matter, as the PVR2 TA works nicely in higher resolutions on the PC. Kind regards, Karl T |

hello all. i was recently working on building a cross compiler toolchain to build opie ( http://opie.handhelds.org ) for the dreamcast. i was following bill gatliff's instructions on linuxdevices.com relatively closely (had to change a couple of things because i need a dynamic linker), and was able to succesfully compile everything i needed. however, when i was done, i could not run opie, getting anundefined reference to __udivsi3_i4 in libstdc++. after doing some searching on google, i found that this was due to the ".hidden" patch. info: http://www.m17n.org/linux-sh/ml/linux-sh/2001-10/msg00004.html http://www.google.com/search?q=cache:6G3lXGwcsekC:www.geocrawler.com/archives/3/3076/2001/10/0/6771850/+__udivsi3_i4+libstdc%2B%2B&hl=en&ie=UTF-8 http://www.google.com/search?q=cache:OigLZHKogzwC:www.geocrawler.com/archives/3/3076/2001/10/0/6771420/+__udivsi3_i4+libstdc%2B%2B&hl=en&ie=UTF-8 (sorry for the long urls, but since geocrawler.com no longer exists, i have to use the google cache). anyway, these all apply to the 3.0.1 version of gcc that i was using (and is mentioned in these emails), but later versions of gcc on m17n.org are for gcc 3.0.4, so i was wondering if the patches for those versions still had this problem, or, if this is the wrong place to ask, where i could find out. i really dont want to spend more time building another toolchain that wont work if i can avoid it : ) thanks for any help thomas spi...@so... |

Been away from this for a while - so just need to check - what are the most up to date patched tools? I have seen messages floating around about gcc 3.2, but I am using patches for 3.0.4. And I cannot get glibc 2.2.5 to compile at all! Adrian |

Mm, good question. I'm assuming that we'd need to know quite a bit more about the video hardware - which may be difficult to get. I should blow the dust off of my DC - have been wanting to for a while. Never managed to grab an ethernet for it, so will have to face up to dealing with life over a serial cable. ;-) -P |

Hi. A complete toolchain has not been assembled in a few months. There was some work on this back in december, but it petered out. You may want to take a look at the most recent uclibc toolchain, it's the best shot so far. Hi everyone, I just want to ask: What is the current gcc version and patches needed to compile 2.4 and 2.5 kernel and glibc (version and patches also) ? I have the old debian from http://www.m17n.org/linux-sh that's working pretty well but having sound will be great PS: I don't know why those informations are not on the site and informations on linuxsh site are a bit old.
