Well the 7200i is the drive i tried. Unfortunetly as I understand it, it can't write -xa1 mode atleast under Linux. > > This adds a new dimenson to my hardware choices. But unfortunetly the drive doesn't support -xa1 mode. I don't know if this is a IDE issue, or if this HP and Sony who are cheep. Personlay I can't see any good reason why not to implement every avilable standard in a drive. But then again I'm no expert. > > Thanks, > > Rob. > > _______________________________________________ > Linuxdc-dev mailing list > Lin...@li... > http://lists.sourceforge.net/mailman/listinfo/linuxdc-dev -- /Rene |

As a start can you all share what drives you've had experiences with. I personally own an HP 7200i (ide) and if Rene says they won't work, I'm going to need to go shopping. This adds a new dimenson to my hardware choices. First I had to make sure they were on the Linux compatability list, now they should be DC compatable too. Thanks, Rob. |

Burning DC CDR dont work on some drives. Personaly, I have had bad experice with HP IDE, but my Yamaha SCSI works fine. And no there is nothing you can do about it to my knolage. -- /Rene |

Did you read the FAQ that comes with his release? If so then is that your ISO he got all of this from? I've already contacted the author of dreamcastlinux.org so hopefully he will either take down the kernel or not link to linuxdc directly. As far as clarification of my position, I'm a project lead (one of two) at linuxdc, and I didn't know this was happenning until it was too late. First, I used to have a Sony CRX140E and it would NOT burn CD-XA Mode 1 or 2 CDs. If you were able to then kudos - you did a better job then me :). But I returned my crappy Sony and bought a Phillips instead. But CRX140E's don't support XA Mode 1/2 in _hardware_, according to cdrecord's documentation (README.SONY), so again, I don't know how you were able to burn the other images you mentioned. Second, I'm not really sure if you're referring to the questionable "linux" kernel that Rene M. has been distributing, as you didn't specify this in your post. I don't know if you saw my "Clarifying.." post on dcdev, but here goes: 1. The kernel being distributed on dreamcastlinux.org is NOT supported by linuxdc.sourceforge.net. We (Karl and I) didn't do it, and I don't want anything to do with it. 2. We will NEVER release a kernel without source, and NEVER release a kernel with proprietary/NDA Sega code in it. This goes directly against the goals of the LinuxDC project and the kernel Rene distributed goes against this - which is why we won't support it. I'm sorry I had to use your post to do it, but I think this is an issue that needs to be nipped in the bud. To all list subscribers: please direct all questions about the kernel on dreamcastlinux.org to Rene M. and NOT to this list. We will only deal with the kernels that we produce, period. If someone asks you what LinuxDC is, here's a one-line retort: "LinuxDC is a project that is documenting the Dreamcast hardware by porting the Linux kernel to its hardware." To those hanging in the balance, the RTC/timer stuff is done, it needs to be merged with CVS, and I'm currently working on the actual Dreamcast configuration (machine vector, read the source) and code for the G2 bus. It's coming real soon now :). M. R. |

Hey all, I've followed the directions EXACTLY at http://mc.pp.se/dc/cdr.html to burn this to a disc (changing of course dev=x,x,x). For whatever reason, though my drive burns the audio track w/o problems, it refuses to burn the second session of the disc. I've tried this under both Windows and Linux (with cdrecord), getting the same error both times. I'm using a Sony CRX140E - as far as I can tell, a capable and modern drive (admittedly, it's not explicitly on the compatibility list). Does anyone know an alternative method of burning these discs? I've burned (images of) discs (the utopia boot disc, for example) with this drive before... so I can't imagine why this one is giving me so many problems. Thanks, Jeff |

Sorry for not answering sooner. I've been away for exams. Please make sure you're subscribed to our linuxdc-dev mailing list, so that we can do all our non-sensitive discussions there from now on.
