Oops, yes, a total oversight, sorry.  We'll probably rely/expand some
on our "distmap" table.

As noted, I'm suggesting we accept all case(s) as input, and just
use one standard internally (which actually becomes immaterial to
most all users then.  So:

	Fedora
	fedora
	fEDORA
	...
	(even if not consistent across all inputs)

would all be acceptable as configuration values.

Applause !!! THat would help me a lot in what I'm trying to do outside
of LinuxCOE and hopefully inside soon.

As an old-time Unix user, I'm inclined towards lc myself, but I don't
care as long as we can standardize on a single one and use it everywhere
! We could even consider using that distro-release file under /etc to
get more info (except for Ubuntu which decided to not create one :-()

Excellent initiative. Just hope it doesn't create too much problem at
the code level.

FYI,

For some time, I have been watching some of our users struggle with
how to name their OSVEND entries (and thus all of the config file
snippets).  Bottom line it comes down to a matter of consistency, but
since our code currently does some specific checks (eg. Fedora), they
are really stuck with our naming conventions.

I recently did some looking around at the various distros and was kinda
surprised/disappointed as to the lack of consistency there as well:

  CentOS
    (pretty consistent except for directory structures centos)

  Debian
    (refers to itself in text this way, yet all logos and d/loads are "debian")

  Fedora
    (same camp as Debian/debian)

  openSUSE
    (over time they have migrated to this capitalization, and are now
     surprisingly consistent)

  RedHat
    (chuckle, on their home page alone there are instances of REDHAT, RedHat, redhat with and without spacing)

  Scientific
    (seems fairly consistent as Scientific Linux or SL)

  SuSE
    (seems Novell has migrated to SUSE, save for the directory structure suse,
     and all of their current offerings are SLE*)

  Ubuntu
    (same camp as Debian/debian)

  VMWare
    (mostly go by VMware)

So, I was wondering about this possibility.  In the code, should we perhaps
do all our checks as "DISTRO" or maybe "distro" and then frontend all of
our parsing with the respective toupper or tolower functions to be as
liberal with inputs, and strict with outputs?

Well the fact that %defs is declared globally doesn't mean that a
specific value of the hash is defined (in general).

In my case, it seemed that $defs{'ALT_DATA'} wasn't defined, thus the
warning. So I supposed that it could be undefined in my case and that
for me the test was needed.

Not sure. Mine is:

This is perl, v5.10.0 built for i386-linux-thread-multi
(with 1 registered patch, see perl -V for more detail)

Yes. I don't want to force you to change anything.
I'm trying to work on the waystation side, and I've always called the
mirror with lower case. But that's not a pb, I can change.

In fact what would be great, is that it exists a table somewhere
indicating which distributions are mirrored, their directory in the
ftp/http tree and  tag to designate them. That way the local admin
creates that the way he wants, there is just one table to fill.
Maybe not worth the hassle.

I didn't understand where that error is coming from.  I attempted to 
duplicate it locally:

I'm trying to provide PXE functions on top of LinuxCOE, as part of the
dploy.org project (http://trac.dploy.org).

I'm begining to make tests with LinuxCOE and used the following small
perl code to try to interact at programmatic level.

Except if there is something I missed in the initialization, it produces
the following warning:

/var/www/linuxcoe-sd/lib/LinuxCOE.pm line 1334.

Using the following patch seems to fix the error:

from RPMs. What is currently missing is the generation of the images tar
files coming from various distro. I'd like to provide a script which
generate those files, and I'd like to uniformize the way of naming
distribution/version/arch between LinuxCOE, pb and dploy.org.

I have used up to now lower case distribution names. E.g.:
