I think it would be very interesting to create an "Axis Vs. Allies" mission with a greater level of realism. The BlueTeam would be restricted to allied aircraft, and the RedTeam would be restricted to axis aircraft. To further increase realism, IFF and HUD would both be permanently disabled, so players would need to identify friend and foe based on "radio" vocalization and the visual appearance of the aircraft types, and targeting would require the same kind of intense, careful examination that was needed during WorldWar II, since red/blue target reticles are not drawn without LAC's HUD.
A mission like this could easily be derived from any of our existing missions. I think "Peabody's" mission or "NET MISSION 7" would make fine choices!
If somebody develops a mission like this, I will modify the cockpit logic to display the compass band at the top of LAC's cockpit even when the HUD is disabled, since realistic WW2 cockpits always had access to a reliable compass.

In a related development, I have added a new "Wish List" item to modify cockpit logic to preserve the compass band as described above. Here's a link to that Wish List item:
I just completed the "Wish List" item described above in alpha-test version Lac08p96. Details and source code for the change are published in the thread referenced through the link above. Accordingly, new Mission Developers wishing to write a mission like the one described at the top of this thread can be assured of full support for their efforts.

To further improve this idea, I suggest that the RADAR display can continue to color airfield locations with Blue or Red according to team affiliation, but RADAR dots representing aircraft ought to be grey. This will help make this mission more enjoyable without diminishing realism, since in the actual war pilots ought to have been continuously aware of airfield locations affiliated with each side even as aircraft moved among them.
I also think it would be a good idea, for the sake of enhanced realism in this kind of mission, to restrict the rate at which players could request radio position updates on their targets. Perhaps we could allow one such query every 60 seconds or so, to better mimic the situation faced by allied players during the actual war (who could not reasonably expect to receive position updates every few seconds). Of course, for the sake of fairness, this restriction should be applied equally to all players on both sides.
