For more than a year now, LAC players have been gathering on Thursday evenings, commencing about 6PM Central USA time, and continuing until about 10 PM. If you would like to join us, it is essential that you install "Mumble" (the well-known, free, open-source VOIP application) so we can talk with one another.
We all monitor the root channel on our Mumble server at LinuxAirCombat.com to get started with new players. If you happen to be the first player to join in on one of those Thursday evenings, you may need to have patience. Crank up Mumble's volume control and just listen for the announcements when others join in. Then speak up! Let us know who you are, your LAC CommunityHandle, and your preferences regarding mission, aircraft, realm, etc! The LAC community uses this means to organize missions. Without Mumble, you are unlikely to find any other active players.
Sometimes nobody shows up, or the action may end early, causing you to miss us. If that happens, we hope you'll forgive us and try again on the following Thursday... we're all new at this. If you find that you are the only online player, we recommend that you fly in Realm01 to make best use of the "Replay Blokes" that are almost always active in "Network Battle 02", "Network Battle03", and in "Peabody's Mission" as described in THIS YouTube video clip:
(Note that a few of us monitor our root Mumble channel at other times too.... you might be able to set up a friendly encounter in the unfriendly skies at any time, but Thursday evenings are most popular).
You will want to take a few simple steps to configure and use Mumble in our community. Here's a link to an overview forum posting that you will find helpful:
We had a great time on Thursday. Thanks to all of you for joining in the fun. It looks like we can make "Thursday Night Battles" a regular feature for the growing LAC community. I uploaded a brief YouTube video of our most recent Thursday fun, which ends in a dramatic explosion of the enemy airbase as the BlueTeam declared victory. Here's the direct link:
That playlist has a lot of videos in it. The most recent ones are always at the end of the list, so that's where you will find the one of interest here and the three I uploaded from the prior Thursday.
Because we are now spanning all of the USA time zones, I propose to be participating on most Thursday evenings commencing about 7:30 PM Central time, which is 8:30 PM on the East coast, 6:30PM in Utah, and 5:30 PM on the west coast. I'll generally be able to hang around at least a couple of hours, so you California guys can join in while I'm still there and hopefully keep things going later into the evening if I have to retire before you do. We had such a great time in the Desert terrain last time that I propose to hang out there for forseeable Thursday Night Battles. (That's "MissionNetworkBattle02" in your LAC menu.) Of course, we can always expand to the other missions once we get on Mumble to negotiate.
Those wishing to join us: You should be using LAC 07p56 or later, and you will enjoy the experience a lot more if you install the free, well-known "Mumble" VOIP application and join us in the LinuxAirCombat.com Mumble server. It's time to recruit your friends. LAC has now emerged as the leading open-source combat flight simulator, but the LAC community is small and needs your recruiting help!

Just to clarify: new LAC players can play any of the three online, server-based, multiplayer missions anytime. Usually the "replay server" is active and always sends a steady stream of RedTeam bombers against the BlueTeam airfield, so there is always something fun to do in MissionNetworkBattle02 and in MissionNetworkBattle03. However, you will probably find yourself flying the only human-piloted aircraft in those missions, just dealing with replayed opponents that pre-recorded a bomber strike mission. These "Thursday Night Battles" are the most likely opportunity for joining a bigger group of us online.

Hi all! I will be flying tonight (Thur13Jun2019) commencing at 8:00 PM (Texas time) and I will be able to fly for at least 2 or 3 hours. The Thursday evening pattern continues!
We had such fun last week in the Desert terrain that I plan to commence there again tonight. That's "MissionNetworkBattle02". Connect via our Mumble server at LinuxAirCombat.com. I always monitor the Mumble "root" channel there. In addition, while flying in that Desert terrain, I will be monitoring Realm0's "M2Blue" channel.

THANKS everybody for joining in again last night (Thur13Jun2019) according to our solidifying schedule. I captured several of our sorties in video clips that I will upload to YouTube later this morning for your review. Watch this thread for an update with those YouTube links.
Everything worked well again, but my end did suffer from some packet loss, resulting in a bit of "warping". Hyrum's PC hung up and forced a re-boot. I know his setup is more complex because he boots his Windows machine into PcLinuxOs via a bootable USB flash "thumb drive". Perhaps his troubles derive from that in combination with the packet loss from my end. After the session I learned that my wife had begun watching a high-definition YouTube movie about the time we suffered from that minor packet loss. On my end, the resulting disruption was minor (almost indetectable). Did anybody else see symptoms of packet loss?

*On 13Jun2019 Four players joined Linux Air Combat's "MissionNetworkBattle02" for a combat session lasting more than two hours. The first hour was dominated by RedTeam under the leadership of "Hyrum" (flying as "Adam"), culminating in destruction of the BlueTeam HQ. *
Throughout the second hour, however, the BlueTeam came back with overwhelming force, destroying the RedTeam HQ in the end.
This brief clip ends with Hyrum's Me-163 Rocket-powered interceptor destroying Lincoln's P38 in a stealthy, high-speed attack.
The players were:
Blake (Flying as "Adams" in Blue2)
Bob (Flying as "Lincoln" in Blue4)
Chief (Flying as "Chief" in Blue10)
Hyrum (Flying as "000000000" in Red1)
The RedTeam was strengthened by automated "replay" bombers that were targeting BlueHQ.
The most active LAC players have agreed to try to gather for online sessions like this on Thursday evenings, commencing about 6PM California time.

Another fun event last night (Thursday 18Jul2019). I captured two video clips that I will be putting up on YouTube as soon as I can. Watch this space for the links.
In the first one, Blake (flying a P38 as "Lincoln") tangled with Chief's Zeke in a frenzied dogfight. These guys went after one another like demons! After about six firing passes, (both planes damaged), Blake finally finished Chief off with a completely blind shot administered directly into the glaring sun, calculating that Chief, being devious, was hiding in that sun glare.
In the second one, I was flying a P38 as "Lincoln" and I took out three "Replay" B17 bombers just before they got into position to bomb my airfield, but I took a lot of damage in the process and was left with just half an engine and with damaged control surfaces that made my P38 fly like a barge. In the meantime, Chief's Zeke had been slowly climbing up my tailpipes, and he shot me down with a devastating volley as I descended toward my airfield, trying to squeeze every remaining ounce of power from my expiring engine in a race for the safety of my airfield gunners.
Thanks to everybody that joined last night. Let's do it again in 7 days!

Last night was our biggest and most competitive "Thursday Night Battle" thus far. Three pilots in Texas battled two non-Texas pilots from less enlightened territories out west (Hyrum from Utah and Chief from California). In an unforseen turn of fate, Texas was humbled by the well-organized squad from the West. We battled vigorously for more than an hour, whacking away at one another's airfields and taking our licks in the process. At the end, the Texans (Flying for BlueTeam) were overwhelmed. The competition was fierce, and the radio communication (especially among those EVIL RedTeam pilots) was very effective. Everybody had a great time.
I captured too much video to publish it all but I have already finished a training exercise, based on Ty's desparate defense of the BlueTeam HQ airfield just before it fell. It's a great resource for those needing to learn how to accelerate repairs and slow down an overwhelming attack to buy time for team-mates. As soon as it finishes uploading to YouTube I will publish a link. I'm going to create a new main forum area here, to be named "Training", and that link will be the first posting there. Watch for it!
Thanks to everybody supporting these amazing Thursday Night Battles. We had six pilots online at various times last night (the five mentioned above, and also Adam, who had to leave before most of the action got intense).
