Valve (the game company) has been selling their "Steam Deck" for about 9 months now. The least expensive version retails for about U.S. $400.00 and it has PLENTY of power to run LAC.

This is done in what they call "Desktop Mode". The Steam Deck's operating system is based on "Arch Linux". LAC has long been available for Arch Linux systems (I use Manjaro Arch a lot for my development work) and LAC can easily be accessed from the popular "AUR" (Arch User Repository).

However, I suspect that the best way to get LAC running on your Steam Deck's Desktop Mode is to download our "APPIMAGE" from here:

    https://sourceforge.net/projects/linuxaircombat/files/Choose%20Your%20Platform/Precompiled%20binaries%20%28no%20source%20code%29/

You will need to mark it as executable, and you MAY need to invoke it from a bash shell as described in our "LAC Distributed in universal, binary AppImage format" forum here:

    https://sourceforge.net/p/linuxaircombat/discussion/lacandappimages/

ALL OF THIS INFORMATION IS SPECULATIVE. Linux Air Combat SHOULD work nicely on the Steam Deck, but I am hoping for confirmation from somebody that has one.

Please give it a try and let me know if it works as well as I think it will! (Respond to this thread or send email to "webmaster@AskMisterWizard.com"). A YouTube search for "Steam Deck Desktop Mode" or "Steam Deck Appimages" will yield lots of related information to make all of this easy!

I just got a Steam Deck and I've verified that LAC's current AppImage (Version Lac08p89 at the time of this writing in October of 2022) works on it and delivers smooth flight at 60 FPS in 720p resolution.

However, mapping the Steam Deck's joysticks and controller buttons to LAC's demands is non-trivial. I've created a new forum, named "LAC and Steam Deck" to support this effort. It's here:

Another update: New version Lac895SD-x86_64.AppImage is nicely optimized for the SteamDeck, and solves all known problems that were apparent in alpha-test versions. You will always be able to download the latest Production-quality LAC SteamDeck AppImage from THIS download page:
