On 21Jul2022, Lincoln and J-Bird met up in Blake's Mission, both flying Lockheed P38L "Lightning" fighters, for a delirious, hour-long set of duels. This was the most amazing of the resulting encounters because J-Bird, relatively new at LAC, cleaned Lincoln's clock! To make this even more impressive, J-Bird was using a MOUSE for his primary flight controls.
At one point in this magnificent encounter, Lincoln (who captured the action from his camera) seriously underestimated J-Bird's energy state and mistakenly led him up, Up, UP in a series of vertical scissors and loops until he ran out of energy and could no longer maneuver. As Lincoln's' mushy P38 crested that last, slow loop, J-Bird (who evidently still had maneuvering energy) hit him hard with a concentrated blast of machine-gun and cannon fire, seriously limiting his engine power and impairing his roll rate a bit.
From that point on, Lincoln had to struggle to retain energy due to his damaged engines. Because both opponents had abundant altitude, Lincoln could still fight, but only by carefully spiraling and looping ever downward to retain maneuvering speed.
Ultimately, after a long and valiant struggle by both parties, the fight came all the way down to hilltop level with both players exchanging jousts and slashing shots in a long series of wild, delirious loops and violent turns, making pass after pass as Lincoln's energy gradually dissipated.
Finally, way down in the weeds, Lincoln, out of energy and no longer able to maneuver, stalled and crashed into the ground after begging J-Bird to put him out of his misery.
The only little problem with this encounter and video clip comes from what we call "Network Turbulence": J-Bird (who lives high up in remote mountains without a conventional Internet connection) uses a very large antenna to connect to a cellular ISP far beyond conventional cellular radio range. Accordingly, his Internet connection is subjected to periods of fluctuating packet loss and latency. You can see that from time to time in this video clip as his position appears to "jitter" and leap forward and backward. Fortunately, this is only apparent for about 10% of this clip.
A GREAT, very long-lasting dogfight. Congratulations, J-Bird!

Linux Air Combat, Blake's Mission, 21Jul2022. Lincoln's BlueTeam P38 prevails over J-Bird's RedTeam P38 in a long, swirling, looping battle narrated with live audio banter.
Two interesting things happen at the end of this clip.
First, (unknown to Lincoln who was filming this clip), J-Bird had to walk away from his keyboard for a minute to let his dog go outside. While he was away, his P38, in a gradual descent, picked up so much speed that it suffered severe airframe damage.
Second, when Lincoln moved in and began shooting J-Bird's damaged P38 to finish him off, he got a little too close. A piece of debris from J-Bird's disintegrating airplane flew back into the slipstream and struck Lincoln's P38 hard, inflicting a lot of damage. Lesson learned: even in victory, these air-to-air encounters are dangerous!

A few minutes later Lincoln was able to inflict a small dose of payback:
