We've spent a lot of time enhancing the 3d models of most of LAC's aircraft, improving visual appearance and rendering speed. Every published version of LAC up through Lac08p41 will benefit from this. You do NOT need to re-install LAC or upgrade it to a later version. Now that LAC's development is so mature and stable, version upgrades will be seen less and less. Instead, when we improve an individual 3d model or sound file, we will make it available from a separate web page advertised as some kind of "Enhancement", and you can just download it and then replace the corresponding file of the same name in your existing LAC installation.
Here is a link to our new page offering the enhanced 3d models resulting from our Jan2021 work:
When you click on that link you will see that three groups of .3ds files are offered as follows:
1 of 3: "More Detailed" graphics. A few of our aircraft models are offered in amazing, extra detail. If your LINUX rig is equipped for heavy-duty rendering, you might want to replace the corresponding files from our "standard/normal" graphics with these. If your hardware has been struggling to maintain LAC's normally silky-smooth flight and 60FPS screen updates, you should avoid these heavy-duty models.
2 of 3: "Standard/Normal" graphics. All of our recent work has been in this group, and if you replace all of your previously existing aircraft .3ds models with the corresponding .3ds files from this set, you will see a lot of improvements. Our brief testing indicates a slight improvement in rendering speed too (but your experience may be different). We HIGHLY recommend that EVERYBODY should download and use these files. Even most Raspberry Pi users will be able to enjoy smooth, 60FPS performance when these files are in use, especially if they "overclock" a bit and trim LAC's "VIEW DISTANCE" below about "120".
3 of 3: "Simplified Graphics" set. A few of our aircraft models are offered in simplified versions for people with marginal LINUX hardware. We don't anticipate these files seeing much use, since even the Raspberry Pi performs nicely with our "Standard/Normal" models. Raspberry Pi users who don't "overclock" may want to use these files, especially if they configure LAC for long-range "VIEW DISTANCE" and fly in online missions populated with large numbers of the corresponding aircraft.
