I'd really appreciate any kind of pointer to help me get past the current problem I'm having trying to get dv in from my Sony camcorder. I've followed all the instructions and looked through the FAQ, gscanbus reports that all is well and controls my camera, but am stuck with the fopllogin error when it comes to using the application dvgrab and kino: rom1394_0 warning: read failed: 0x0000fffff0000414 rom1394_0 error: invalid root directory length The only anomoly that I can find is that dmesg does not report ieee1394:including selfid 0x...." as mentioned in linux1394's getting started section. However, it does report many other 'positive' information about the card (below). I've got stock RedHat 7.2 with: [lance@hd tmp]$ ls -ld /dev/*1394* crw-rw-rw- 1 root root 171, 0 Jul 16 10:47 /dev/raw1394 [lance@hd tmp]$ lsmod | grep 1394 raw1394 7104 2 ohci1394 17456 1 ieee1394 24016 0 [raw1394 ohci1394] [lance@hd tmp]$ rpm -qa | grep 1394 libraw1394-devel-0.9.0-6 libraw1394-0.9.0-6 libavc1394-0.3.1-2 [lance@hd tmp]$ rpm -qa | grep dvgrab dvgrab-1.01-1mdk [lance@hd tmp]$ rpm -qa | grep kino kino-0.45-1mdk [lance@hd tmp]$ rpm -qa | grep gscan gscanbus-0.7.1-1mdk [lance@hd tmp] dmesg | grep good 1394 stuff Linux version 2.4.7-10 (bhc...@st...)
