Yes, but on the flip side of the coin if v1 is going to be ripped out of the mainstream kernel in next couple of months none of the webcams will work with v4l1 only applications and hence they are going to have to upgrade anyway and v4l2 has been around since 2.5.x so its not like they haven't had time to port their apps.
