Dear list, I'm experiencing video corruption when capturing in MJPEG format. There are no issues when capturing in YUV format, though. The problem is, one proprietary application I care about (Zoom) captures in MJPEG format with no option to change the format. I'm attaching kernel log and USB descriptors according to the FAQ. The device is a webcam made by Chicony built into a Sony Vaio Pro 13: 04f2:b42a Chicony Electronics Co., Ltd Front Camera I'm running Fedora 31 with kernel-5.5.9-200.fc31.x86_64. Steps to reproduce: Saturate the USB bus. This can be achieved by streaming two USB 2.0 cameras uncompressed at 640x360 resolution on the same hub. I tested it with a Logitech C525 and a Logitech C920. The video will stream without errors. Run a command that touches the cameras, such as v4l2-ctl --list-devices or --set-ctrl. The video stream will start to stutter, or completely hang (on the VIDIOC_DQBUF call). They will never recover until the program which is streaming the cameras is closed. I’ve attached a log from doing the above (with trace=0xffff). I ran v4l2-ctl --list-devices at line 368. If it’s an issue with the v4l2-ctl call taking up USB bandwidth and causing USB packets to be dropped, I’d expect no more than a couple video frames to be dropped. Note that the issue is most consistently a problem with 3+ cameras, but it’s reproducible with two. Hallo, I have a Samsung VG-STC4000 Webcam and it seems the device is not supported. How can I get it to work? 4 years ago or so Samsung produced this camera for their smart TVs in order to support video conferencing with Microsoft skype. Since Microsoft ended the support for skype on samsung TVs, the skype app is no longer available and the webcam device ist useless. I try to avoid sending the device into trash... When I plug the device I get this info with lsusb: ID 04e8:2061 Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd dmesg: [Fr Jan 10 15:41:12 2020] usb 1-7: new high-speed USB device number 9 using ehci-pci [Fr Jan 10 15:41:12 2020] usb 1-7: New USB device found, idVendor=04e8, idProduct=2061 [Fr Jan 10 15:41:12 2020] usb 1-7: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=0 [Fr Jan 10 15:41:12 2020] usb 1-7: Product: USB2.0 UVC HQ WebCam [Fr Jan 10 15:41:12 2020] usb 1-7: Manufacturer: Alpha Imaging Tech. Hi, This is to report that : "ID 046d:082b Logitech, Inc. Webcam C170" is supported by the uvc driver. Default support comes with pretty low frame rate (device reportedly supports 30gps). This can be worked around through: /usr/bin/v4l2-ctl -c exposure_auto_priority=0 # if your device is /dev/video0 or permanently through the following udev rule: ACTION=="add", SUBSYSTEM=="video4linux", SUBSYSTEMS=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="046d", ATTRS{idProduct}=="082b", RUN+="/usr/bin/v4l2-ctl -d /dev/%k -c exposure_auto_priority=0" Kind regards, Dimitris |

This is the happy (and rare) path; under circumstances I 'm not still able to reproduce (usually after a power-related event, suspend to RAM, shutdown etc.) the camera stops working, it isn't listed in libusb and "dmesg | grep -i usb" doesn't report anything related. When this happens, camera doesn't appear neither on Windows and the only way I found to resurrect it is to shutdown the laptop and leave it off for a while. This is probably a power-related problem as it seems like the device isn't powered up at all in some cases, but I was wondering if someone has ever spotted something similar. Dimitris |

Hi, I recently bought a Lenovo T490s with an integrated IR-camera that is compatible with Windows Hello face authentication. The camera shows up as: 04f2:b67c Chicony Electronics Co., Ltd Integrated Camera The camera has an integrated IR emitter which is off by default. By looking at Wireshark USB dumps while an app in Windows turned on the LED, I found a call to the Realtek Extended Control Unit 26b8105a-0713-4870-979d-da79444bb68e (to which I couldn't find any documentation), writing 2 bytes to the selector 0x0e. The data sent was 0x0219 and would indeed turn on the IR LED. The first byte (0x19) seems to control the intensity (0x19 is seemingly already the maximum intensity). I don't know what the second byte does: 0x01 seems to do the same, 0x00 turns off the LED. I wrote a simple tool that can send the corresponding UVCIOC_CTRL_QUERY to the device (https://github.com/PetePriority/chicony-ir-toggle/), however, this feels more of a workaround to me. One could use udev rules to do this at boot. However, another call is necessary after waking from suspend. I don't know if this is possible with udev. I tried mapping this control with UVCIOC_CTRL_MAP, (UVC_CTRL_DATA_TYPE_UNSIGNED -> V4L2_CTRL_TYPE_INTEGER) but the control reports a range from 0 to 2 and only sets the the second byte. I don't know how I would go about exposing the raw bytes to v4l2. I'm writing to this list because * I thought someone might find these findings interesting/useful, * I'm unsure of what would be the right way to expose the functionality of enabling the IR emitters (I haven't done anything regarding uvcvideo or v4l2 before)? Would turning on the LED be the responsibility of the user applications by calling the ioctl directly? Should this go into the uvcvideo driver or the v4l2 layer? Thanks! Peter |

Is there a way to do a reset in software? I guess I could wire the USB through a relay and trip it occasionally, but that seems a rather inelegant solution. What would the issue be with the cabling? The camera is on a gantry robot and an ~3-4 meter USB cable in a drag chain. Does this error mean packets are getting lost/garbled? What does this error actually represent? -J On Thu, Oct 24, 2019 at 11:27 AM Dmitry Mikushin <dm...@ke...> wrote: > To my experience, many cameras run into select error sooner or later. Hi- I'm having issues with a webcam throwing select-timeout errors after several days of image acquisition. dmesg yields: [251952.411582] uvcvideo: Non-zero status (-71) in video completion handler. over and over and over Would appreciate any help in getting this camera working more stably as it's on a robotic system that needs to run for months at a time. thanks -J -- /* Jason Pitt PhD 206.616.1193 Kaeberlein Lab jn...@uw... Hi all, Has anyone tried UVC gadget application to stream from USB camera in the device to host? I am using this version of UVC gadget app: https://github.com/wlhe/uvc-gadget I am facing issues with that. I am able to stream dummy video in both YUYV and MJPG formats. But, when I try to stream from a real USB camera (Logitech C922), it did not work. I got 'select timeout' error. I am using f_uvc gadget with configfs setup to support 360p @ 10 fps which the USB camera also supports. If I directly plug in USB camera to host, it works. So, there is no problem with the camera. I tried setting streaming_maxpacket to 256 (as per suggestion from here: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/54318862/flickering-and-failing-video-streaming-with-uvc-gadget-and-g-webcam ) . It still did not work. I used to get "dwc3 ran out of requests" error. So, I have set streaming_maxinterval as 4. Any pointers to get this working? Thanks, Saranya |

Hi, I've got a brand new Dell Latitude 5400 Laptop, with a webcam that isn't working. I've already tried all the quirks in the uvcvideo module, but none of them worked, unfortunately. With the files that I'm sending with this message, you will be able to see the specifics of the device. If I can do another tests to help you guys, please let me know. It would be nice if anybody can point me to right direction, regarding contributions of code and debugging, so I can be able to "scratch my on itch". Thanks anyway! Att, Wolff |

The other URI works for me: git clone git://git.ideasonboard.org/uvc-gadget.git (As listed on the *web* page http://git.ideasonboard.org/uvc-gadget.git) Cheers, Moritz |

Hi all, I am trying to clone the UVC gadget testing application code from here: http://git.ideasonboard.org/uvc-gadget.git But, I get this error: fatal: repository 'http://git.ideasonboard.org/uvc-gadget.git/' not found I tried git clone http://git.ideasonboard.org/git/uvc-gadget.git too. I get the same error. Has anyone been able to successfully clone this repo? Or does anyone have a fork of this latest repo from where I can clone? Thanks, Saranya |

Hello again, I tinkered a little more and played with qv4l2. All the controls seem to work and the device gets polled, I can see the green light turn on. As far as the uvc / v4l2 interface goes it seems to be working except qv4l2 shows no video, just a black frame(s?) at the requested resolution. I've attached the dmesg output with /sys/module/uvcvideo/parameters/trace = 0xffff How do I check if this is not a fully UVC compatible camera? The test on http://www.ideasonboard.org/uvc/faq/ shows: $ lsusb -d 090c:337b -v | grep "14 Video" bFunctionClass 14 Video bInterfaceClass 14 Video bInterfaceClass 14 Video bInterfaceClass 14 Video bInterfaceClass 14 Video bInterfaceClass 14 Video bInterfaceClass 14 Video I just need to know if this is just incompatible and I need to buy another camera module. I've got a Lenovo X1C G7 and the camera sometimes works, but most of the time does not. Specifically testing it in Chrome with Google Meet shows the camera as 'starting' and then it never gets a video feed. I see the light on the camear turn on and then after a bit it turns back off. When it works, it stays on and I get a video feed but especially lately it's not. Distributor ID: Ubuntu Description: Ubuntu 19.04 Release: 19.04 Codename: disco kernel: 5.0.0-25-generic The device isn't listed explicitly on the supported list, but it is as far as I can tell a uvc device. Dmesg seems to show the device is 'flapping' which would explain it being intermittent. I suppose it could be conflicting with another usb device? Any advice how to proceed would be appreciated. lsusb and dmesg included below as requested. Hello everyone! I'm having a bit of trouble using my Magewell USB Capture Plus (ID 2935:0004; see lsusb.log for details). It works well, but eventually the video freezes (the audio continues to work). This happens in qv4l2, qvidcap, and OBS Studio. In the latter two programs, I can just restart them to fix the video; in OBS, changing any of the settings for the V4L2 source (frame rate, resolution, etc.) will also fix it. When the video freezes, the line "uvcvideo: Non-zero status (-32) in video completion handler." appears once, then the same line appears several more times, except with the status being -71. The dmesg log shows this happening while running qvidcap. Steps to reproduce are: 1. Plug in device. 2. Open qvidcap, or another program that shows the captured video. 3. Wait. 4. The video will freeze after some time. The amount of time it takes to freeze is seemingly random. I imagine that this device is similar to the Magewell device already on the supported devices (ID 2935:0001), so if that device requires quirks, then I'd think it'd be worth trying the same ones for this device. I'm using Arch Linux; the output of uname -a is: Linux stb-laptop 5.2.5-arch1-1-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Wed Jul 31 08:30:34 UTC 2019 x86_64 GNU/Linux If there's anything I should try, or if I should provide more info, please let me know! Thanks for your time. STB |
