Hello,
Can anyone else with the LG DVD-RAM GSA-H55L confirm the following phenomena:
1) formatting of media works, using /dev/sr0 (it's a PATA drive).
2) creating the packet device with pktsetup or the pktcdvd init script works
3) creating or mounting the filesystem on the packet device (e.g. /dev/pktcdvd/pktcdvd0) always fails
4) writing or reading anything to the packet device always fails
5) formatting media under windows on the same computer works
6) performing (5), then trying to handle the formatted disc under Linux via the packet driver, also always fails
Taken, for example, a standard Medion CD-RW (700Mb, 4–12×):
diederik@Californium ~ $ cdrwtool -i -d/dev/sr0
using device /dev/sr0
1088KB internal buffer
setting write speed to 12x

Furthermore, trying to mount results in:
--------
Californium diederik # mount /dev/pktcdvd/pktcdvd0 /mnt/cdrom/
mount: /dev/pktcdvd/pktcdvd0: can't read superblock
Californium diederik # dmesg | tail -n 5

---------
This specific error appears everywhere on the net, but I never managed to find a solution for it.

I tracked the problem down to pkt_get_max_speed which always returns 0
