Sound support in 2.4.18?

Hi!

Today I downloaded the latest 2.4.18 release of the
APUS kernel. Is sound supposed to work with this
kernel? Is it builtin or compiled as a module?

For example when I try to open a mp3 file with
splay, this happens:

splay track1.mp3

cannot open /dev/dsp or /dev/sound/dsp
splay: failed to open sound device.
