the bootstrap program that comes with woody/debian  seems to be old!

download the latest version from

http://linux-apus.sourceforge.net
 

I'd also advise on getting a newer kernel...either 2.2.10 from the page
or 2.4.13 (you may find later ones work okay on your system though...eg 2.4.18-1
