Newbie problems , 2.4.x and Xfree86

Ok problem number one :) :

I have setup a clean drive with amiga OS 3.0 ,the ppc.lib and the latest 
APUS boothack in the C:.

I can boot kernel version 2.2.10 and i have installed Debian woody on the 
linux partition on the end of this clean disk ( its linux only , basic 
amigaos install to get linux going ). When i try and boot any 2.4.x series 
kernels ( i've tried a few ) the Blizzard vision ( the aga output promoted 
to the bv via one of its options ) has the boothack output with the last 
line being inhibiting filesystems , the AGA output is a light white/grey 
colour as when booting 2.2.10 , it stays like this for a while and then 
resets :(

The 2.2.10 kernel boots fine , with just a few unresolved symbols on the 
modules , i'd be gratefull for anyideas on that , but the system works fine 
without um as i've been using bitchX and lynx all day.

Problem 2:

When i have got a kernel booted (currently 2.2.10) i want to run X and 
windowmaker , so i installed the Xfree86 package from the Debain Woody CD 
and downloaded a config file from the contrib folder and copyied it in , 
issuing startX reports unresolved sysmbols in glint.o , being a linux newbie 
i kinda don't know where to start with fixing it. Altough i did set it up to 
use a framebuffer and the server started and crashed leaving mess on the 
bottom half of the screen. It then did it ever time i booted so i had to 
reinstall.

Any help is gratefully recieved :)
