Everything was set nice.
After some attempts it finally booted with kernel 2.4.9 from sf, so I
thought I hade made some confusion with kernel images names; I even managed
to install the distro twice, but then (without touching anything in the
launch script) the whole thing paniced again, even with 2.4.13 from one of
the CDs.
Now everything works again and without a human understandable explanation, I
installed everything I needed and I'm having some problems with XF86-4.x
(I'll ask some help later if I can't find any useful hint among the posts).

I still can't manage to unpack 2.4.17-3, as lha and lzx say something like
"unknown compress method lha6".
I solved the kernel-issue, but which packer (and version n) should I use?

Just for information, the latest panics I experienced (when I was trying to
install everything a second time) where the same with every kernel and all
reported:

    Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 01:00

2.4.9 stated just before the line above:

    VFS: Cannot open root device "ram" or 01:00
    Please append a correct "root=" boot option


M
