You have to decide for yourself; XFree86 4 offers nice features like better hardware acceleration, anti-aliased text, ... but if you're satisfied with version 3, the effort may indeed outweigh the benefits for you. > I have used an apt-get install xserver -Xfree86 command and been told I > need to download 31mb of stuff and 57mb will subsequently be removed from > my installation. I suspect your version of apt can't handle the upgrade, one should always upgrade apt firs= t as a rule of thumb. So try just apt-get install apt before trying again. If it still wants to remove a lot of packages, please provide some output. > I don't want to go ahead and find I need to start again. > I pay for my online time per minute so I would like an alternative > method if possible, is there one. I doubt there's an easier way, but you might e.g. be able to (ab)use the apt-zip package to download packages in AmigaOS. --=20 Earthling Michel D=E4nzer (MrCooper)/ Debian GNU/Linux (powerpc) developer XFree86 and DRI project member / CS student, Free Software enthusiast |
