Soemtimes even normal switching from X to a console (while X is still running)
with Alt-Fx brings up this effect. Though I mostly still had heartbeat. I
then guessed it could maybe be possible to login remotly and do a normal
shutdown, but did not try that. But if even heartbeat fails, tough!

I think it was me who has already reported this erratic behaviour of XFree4.x. I
couldn't find a solution neither. Also tried different kernels. The only thing
would maybe be an update of the XFree86 Server.

I did not try that, but it may be a good idea. I've got no more SuSE on my
haddrive atm, I am sorry.
