Upgrading from 2.2.8 to 2.4.9 and upgrading in general

Hi,

I've been running 2.2.8 for quite some time now and I'd like to know the =
best way to migrate towards 2.4.9.  Personally, I've tried to install =
LinuxPPC 2000 using the 2.2.10 kernel and the 2.4.9 kernel without any =
luck. 2.2.10 kernel panics before booting the ramdisk and 2.4.9 kernel =
panics just after it tries to read the packages.

My last question is are there any more recent distributions than =
LinuxPPC 2000 that work with APUS.
