hi, As previous reported last week, Krystian Baclawski's little addition (with the help from Roman etc) allowed my system to boot...but i got a nice kernel panic when doing some disk stuff. I've had a second look at the Ooops and the task which stopped the show was not the task i was running...but a daemon. wwwoffle caused the crash...and if i stop this service (installed by default with Debian 3.0 it seems) then I dont get the crash any more and my system was up for the whole weekend...running X, a few little X programs and a updatedb every hour. thats nice and stable enough for me...for now ;-) ) therefore, i'd say we should commit the change...and remove that other change which doesnt work (in ide-probe.c)..or find the exactly correct place to put the little interupt bit that was required. As an extra note...please find enclosed my crash text (thanks to dmesg) and the output of ksymoops... because I have some serious worries that it has uncovered some problems in the TCP area of the kernel!! alan |
