I have also an ethernet card mounted , but is connected to a DSL modem.
This type of communication is relatively slow (256 kbits) so i haven't
seen slowdowns.
The only thing i can say is that ( in my case) the ethernet card shares
the same interrupt (12) with the UW controller and with an IDE card but 
it don't seems to be a problem.
