Kernel 2.4.9 running smooooooth

Tested kernel 2.4.9 on my CSPPC this weekend, and my first impression w=
as very good!
It feels smooth!

I also found out about the serial port trouble with wvdial and my modem=
. It is
obviously not a direct kernel bug, I simply had to rerun the wvdial mod=
em
autodetection. After saving the new config it worked without problems!

Albeit it's a bit strange that the modem can not be accessed with the s=
ame
parameters as under kernel 2.4.4.

But there still seems to be some confusion about console switching. Onc=
e I switched from the X11 console (now running under glint :)) ) while =
loading
netscape, the buttons size of the desktop got doubled or so, and the co=
lors
went nuts. Well, this seems to be normal behaviour when switching from =
the
X11 console, this picture flashes up everytime for a short moment until=
 the new console shows up. But this time the pixel trash stayed, and ne=
tscape stopped loading. I could not switch consoles anymore, neither di=
d the computer accept any keyboard input.
Though there was still heartbeat. Powering off released my Miggy.

An other time I switched to root console did some emacs or yast stuff, =
switched back, and X11 immediately got killed. Though restarting it was=
n't a problem.


Thank you for the good job you all did on the kernel!! The strange "flo=
ating
point kernel panic" behaviour seems to have gone.
