Sorry, I had to forward my own message because mails from my native ema= il account couldn't be delivered to the apus lists at all! Other adress= es are working problemfree!! ---------------------- Weitergeleitet von Andreas Wuest/LEU am 17.07.20= 01 08:46 --------------------------- Andreas W=FCst <an...@ma...> am 16.07.2001 21:49:03 An: Andreas W=FCst <and...@le...> Kopie: Thema: kernel 2.4.6: serial support and kernel panic? Hi I have successfully been trying the kernel snapshot 2.4.6 from #http://= linux-apus.sourceforge.net/snapshots/# tonight (though only for 20 minutes which I think isn't representative = at all, remembering the days I have been using kernel 2.4.4 without problems at= all for hours!!). I decided to download it because there has recently been a lot of talk = about it on this list. Roman pointed out, that the VM problem has been fixed = (if I'm right), which belonged to the crashes Ken Tyler had on his machine. Now= I am not quite sure if this fix also belongs to me, remember I am the guy wi= th the 'floating point code used in the kernel' kernel panics. At a first glance, it runs 'fast and stable'. I could even run glint, w= hich gave me faster gfxs. To test if the kernel panics had gone, i started netscape, of which I think gives quite a heavy workload to the system a= nd on which I had most of the kernel panics (once even with emacs, not runnin= g x at all). It ran, the only problem has been that I couldn't connect to the internet with my modem. wvdial tried to connect, the modem responded fo= r a short time (some flickering LEDs), but nothing more. I am wondering if something with serial port is broken in 2.4.6 or it is compiled as a mo= dule (which I think is not possible, because of the flickering LEDs, there m= ust have been a connection to ser port from the kernel). But if it is compiled as a module, that's quite bad, because I can't communicate with my CSPPC SCSI disks under Linux. And because of no mod= em connection, I can't download them directly... So, does the kernel fix really belong to my 'floating point code' kerne= l panics and is ser communication broken or just a module? (Michel has al= ready been very friendly to compile MS-DOS partition table support into the k= ernel, so I could at least boot the machine!). -- Kind Regards, Andi W. = |
