Well that didn't work. I ended up putting my old 2.3 aside and getting it
again, now the config from the precompiled kernel compiles, I must have
stuffed up my old tree somehow. I'll compare them and see what went wrong
- not that it matters.  Now I'll try my own config and try booting.
