X crashes normal ?

I just did a gnome-helix update with the helix-updater...

My system is almost stable again after deleting all rpms with gnome or
helix in them, downloading all the rpms and installing them one at a time
like I should have done in the first place.

My query is is it normal for everything to freeze if something goes
wrong when X is running ?

Heartbeat stops, odd thing is SysReq reBoot is the only command that
works, can't sync and unmount 'nicely'.
