Which kernel makes Internet connection possible?

Hi all!

I have problem here, and this is an old problem. I can't get online :(.
With the 2.4.18 kernel the whole system freezes. With the 2.4.4 kernel,
the modem starts dialing but after this the pppd daemon dies.
And please don't tell me to use a 2.2.x kernel, because I won't.

I've heard that someone made it work with the 2.4.4 kernel..

Repulse 24bit
Ariadne 10Mbit
IBM IDE 12.6GB
