great! you're giving me exactly the info I wanted.

Run 2.4.13.  2.4.15->2.4.18 have broken A1200 IDE code (the interupts dont
get serviced and the whole system locks up when the IDE interface is 
probed).  this is a well known problem.

My suggestion: Run 2.4.13 , we are looking at the issues with 2.4.20
and hopefully everyone can jump straight to this new kernel revision
when bugs are finally ironed out.
