Hi group.

We're back working on the next major version of Lintrack. A lot has
changed in our priorities, implementation of Flatconf 2.0 is almost
finished, and I decided that we'd better skip the Lintrack 2.1 milestone
and start to work on the 3.0 version, codename "Monza" (no changes
here).

I'd like to officially welcome new Lintrack team member, Łukasz Zemczak,
who will be responsible for the Lintrack kernel and other low-level
system elements. So far Łukasz has done a lot of great work on Flatconf.

Because of the changes to our team and because there is a chance that
one more person will join us, I decided to finally write some
fundamental documentation for Lintrack developers. Here it is:

Namely, "Basics, or how to contribute". Everybody interested in Lintrack
development (or Lintrack in general) is highly encouraged to read it.

As to the Lintrack 3.0 status we managed to switch from Scratchbox to
our very own Fakebox (which simplifies package builiding *a lot*), do
minor cleanups and updates to some packages (for instance, vanilla
2.6.24 kernel) and even come up with first Lintrack 3.0 ISO image! You
can grab it at:

But be aware that it "just boots", with many warnings and errors. Don't
be discouraged - on the other hand - if you want to help, you'll very
easily find stuff to work on.

fundamentals. For instance, we need to completely convert the old
configuration system to Flatconf 2.0, so expect important changes soon.

I have just modified the goal of the 2.1 release - we're not going to 
integrate the upcoming Flatconf 2.0, because this would block new important 
features and bug fixes for too long.

I do hope that this time we'll be able to make it before the deadline (30th

Today, I've synchronized trunk with bug fixes made to the Lintrack 2.0=20
branch - see:

encouraged to do this on your own, possibly spotting problems with our buil=

system.

The upcoming Lintrack release is going to be named "Monza", an Italian raci=

track. If anybody has better idea, I'm open for discussion.

The main focus of the 2.1 release is to provide bug fixes and to improve=20

We still need to gather greater community around the project. If you've got=

Thanks for contribution!

I'll give it a try and even consider replacing the old Slackware boot cd, as I 
suppose it's better in terms of hardware detection.

BTW doing our very own boot cd should be a task to consider in the future. The 
truth is that I was quite in a hurry when creating the current Lintrack boot 
cd and I had no time to do this as it should be done.

I've got a question - is the initrd/var/lib/dpkg/info directory needed at all?

I did a small boot-cd based on debian for personal use since the slackware 
have some restrictions.
For now, the makefile dont generate the -big lintrack cd.

Its available at http://201.20.160.6/~fgrep/deb-installer.tgz if someone 
want to give it a try.

Its based on debian but you should be able to compile it on any linux (only 
need sed, ar, mkisofs).
