I think I understand now.

I check out the HEAD. And merge the changes that were done to the Stable 
branch since the 0_2_7 version.

So three versions of the work is affected:

1. the HEAD
2. the 0_2_7 version, which is actually a version of the HEAD and the 
beginning version of the branch
3. the branch

Now I think I have merged all changes I had made back into the HEAD.
