Hello everybody, I'm new to this list though I've been using LilyPondTool for a long time. I am also a member of the LilyPond French team and of the LSR crew. There is a thing you should know: the Babel translator which was used to translate the Jwizardcomponent buttons really *sucks* and every French LilyPondTool user outthere <ho uses the Document Setup Wizard must be hilarious when seeing such things as "Dos", "Apr=EBs" or "Finition", which are not even French words! :) So since I've just discovered this list, here is a modified i18n_fr.properties file which *does* sound French. If someone can commit it to the SVN... Thanks Valentin |

Using the linux lilypond installer, links are created in ~/bin although the files are copied to ~/lilypond/usr/bin I make a mistake setting the path in lilytool to the latter at first so i encountered some errors. Changing to the former solves the problem. I noticed that the sidekick didn't parse the window for sometime I click refresh a few times under the sidekick dock. Also Matev=9E mentioned that Canorus has a feature, under "View->Voice in LilyPond source" which updates lilypond code on the fly when the notes are being edited. Joshua |

Hi, 2007 is already here in a blink of an eye. Happy new year! (okay its a little late, but its still the new year in our lunar new year :) Okay, I still have half a year more to serve in Ns, surprisingly this 2 years have affected a little of my views on my computer ;p Well, it seems I have not even touch lilypond for the months, and my entire windows installation is somewhere in mars. (I'm running a new Linux now because my hardware causes windows to keep crashing) Was browsing the web archives of the mailing lists, and reading the lilytool related stuff. Am real glad that lilytool has new releases and its gaining wide support! Yeah, the demo of Lilypondtool 2.10 is real cool too. Great work Bert! So now I will be redownloading jedit, and the plugins. When its done, then hopefully the development tools. See you around, Joshua Koo ps. My blog is still up over at http://zz85.is.dreaming.org Hoping to put up some cool stuff when I'm got the time, including the lilytool experience :) On 7/24/05, Bertalan Fodor <fo...@fr...> wrote: > > Joshua, > > thank you for all your work. A recent third party analysis of these wells gave a remaining reserve in the three production zones of almost 4 billion cubic feet of gas. This will give the project a production life of 10 years at the modest production rate of one million cubic feet per day. Further reserves of gas are anticipated in the surrounding leases after a geophysics and drilling program have been completed. The gas, which will be upgraded using Visiion EEnergy Grooup's proprietary technology and know-how, will be s old as premium grade gas into the statewide pipeline grid. The estimated capital c ost of the project is $2.0 million and will be targeted to be in production within seven months. Valley Production has among its principals and technical staff such notables of the industry as Jeff Smith and Ed LeLousis of Bakersfield, Calif. Well, the Console plugin's maintainers has changed the plugin in an incompatible way. Now I can see that I have to make a release for the newer version. Until then, you could try to run the lilypond-related commands outside LilyPondTool, maybe using the Console plugin by itself. Next week I'll going to make a release of LilyPondTool's latest version. Bert Sean Reed írta: > Hi Bertalan, > > I used LilyPondTool exclusively for all my scores with enormous > satisfaction until April of 2005 on Mac OSX. > > I recently updated the tool, but it no longer works. If you look at the LilyPond grammar, you see that the lexer itself changes with parsing... For example, after it parsed italian.ly, then some tokens like 'do' will became a NOTENAME_PITCH token, but if you don't parse italian.ly (which is actually a Scheme fragment), the lexer will generate a STRING token, instead of NOTENAME_PITCH. So for correct parsing you need to interpret many things. The Scheme parser integrated into LilyPondTool's parser is quite slow. So for correct speed, I must build a parser database containing all of LilyPond's default command, notename, etc. definitions. (This is contained in LilyPond's share/ly directory - that's why I need shareroot.) The actual parser is in the lilytool.parser.antlr package. But because of its dependency on LilyAssist.dat, that is the parser database, the database must be built first, running lilytool.parser.codeassist.AssistantProvider as a Java application - the comments of the main method of it will help how to do it. Generating the parser database should work easily for the latest 2.8 version of LilyPond, however, there is an error in music-functions.ly, so we must fix it (it is fixed in LilyPond CVS, but not in the 2.8 branch): "As you can read on lilypond-devel, music-functions-init.ly (in lilypond-shareroot) must be edited. Change the definition of parallelMusic according to the following: instead of lambda (. seq) write lambda* (#:rest seq) " > Not sure what you meant here. Do I need to install > all those plugins? > The most simple way to work with the parser is to make an environment on which LilyPondTool can be built. >> - the parser is intended for the latest stable >> version of lilypond - you >> need the binary and the documentation of this >> > You are refering to lilypond's binary and > documentation? > Yes. >> - put >> the doc into docroot >> and the binary's share to shareroot (see build.xml) >> > Docroot and shareroot for lilypong, jedit, or > something else? > If you look at the build.properties and build.xml files of LilyPondTool, can see that it uses two directories as arguments for AssistantProvider (in the parserDB target). This two directories should contain LilyPond documentation (like "c:\\Program Files\\LilyPond\\usr\\share\\doc\\lilypond\\web-root") and LilyPond's share (like "c:\\Program Files\\LilyPond\\usr\\share\\lilypond\\2.7.23") > I see. Is there a documentation with exact steps to > follow. > No, actually, running 'ant dist' with the build.xml of LilyPondTool should be enough, however, you must resolve the dependencies first (libraries etc.). So the best is to install jEdit, then its LilyPondTool plugin, this will install most of the dependencies, then check out the lily4jedit cvs into jEdit\jars\LilyPondTool, and try to build it. You will see if something missing from the classpath. Should not take to much time. Bert |

Hi, I recently discovered the site http://www.musipedia.org/ Some interesting stuff.. Its web based interface (either js or ajax) allows clicking on the keyboard to generate lilypond code, and this lilypond code will generate score and even midi to download. it has a applet which recognise pitch and tunes by humming/singing/clapping (i wanted to create a instrument tuner with midp 2 but gave up eariler because i couldnt understand fourier transformation which i thought would be needed) Plus couple more stuff.. (dont have the time to explorer as im still in cam= p) ;) Joshua |

I have yet to figure out why multivalent's point-and-click issnt working. (i'm using native windows lilypond 2.8 now) As for pdf viewing I'm using FoxIt Reader. So I tried to assiocate both in lilypond variables (C:\Program Files\LilyPond\usr\bin\variables.sh) and firefox variables (C:\Documents and Settings\Joshua\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\12345678.default\) but firefox keeps trying to run guile on C:\Program Files\LilyPond\usr\bin\lilypond-invoke-editor.scm which doesnt exists. C:\Program Files\LilyPond\usr\bin\lilypond-invoke-editor\lilypond-invoke-ed= itor does exist though. I found bert's previous mail (about 1 year back) on this issue, http://www.mail-archive.com/lil...@gn.../msg07069.html but it doesnt seems to apply for this lilypond version. Any hints? Joshua |

As you can read on lilypond-devel, music-functions-init.ly (in lilypond-shareroot) must be edited. Change the definition of parallelMusic according to the following: instead of lambda (. seq) write lambda* (#:rest seq) Bert |

Yeah, the developers of lilypond constantly make very ugly hacks in scheme. Actually they have created a dynamic parser - that means, that the language the parser understand can be changed from the parsed document itself. For example they override the note names this way. The parallel mode is another problem we have to deal with :-( The problem may be caused by the comment for parallelmusic in music-functions-init-ly.) Bert Joshua Koo wrote: > Yup. To generate the dat file you need to run the main method of LilyAssistProvider (or something similar ) Just see the code ;-) And sorry for I don't have the time to work on the plugin these months. Do not update to the new console yet. LilyPondShell.java & LilyToolPlugin.java need changes if running Console 4.2.6 See http://community.jedit.org/?q=3Dnode/view/2777 http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/jedit-plugins/Console-4.1.2.zip works well with lilytool for now. > Hi, > > I've been trying to compile lilypond for the last 2 nights.. I think it will be useful for you. Note that in my parser I use antlr, which is actually almost the opposite of the one used by lilypond (flex+bison). I found antlr easier to use. Bert |

I found and bought this book at a cheap book clearance sale yesterday- "Build Your Own .NET Language and Compiler" by Edward G. Nilges, Apress publishing. (SGD $8 from the original price US$49.99 B-) In chapter 3, he shows 3 phrase a typical compiler has. 1. Scanning - Also Lexical Analysis, Regular Expression could be used. 2. Parsing- and initial object code creation, Backus-Naur Form (BNF) could be used. 3. Object code optimization- Reverse Polish Notation (RPN) helps to run the code. This gave me some understanding to compilers and parsing I didnt know befor= e. It makes me think again about Lilypond (like a compiler) and Bert's new par= ser. Joshua |

Glad you are able find the solution for compiling the htmlparser. I encountered the same error the last time, but didnt want to give trouble by sending another mail full of error messages again. Since then, I havent work on lilytool, not to say read email or use my computer much less frequent since there more work in camp. Its nice to see some mails in this list, Hope to hear more soon, Joshua ;) On 3/26/06, Johannes Schindelin <Joh...@gm...> wrote: > Hi, > > On Sat, 25 Mar 2006, Bertalan Fodor wrote: > > > Compiling the current cvs is quite difficult, because I'm in the middle= of a > > very important rewrite of code completion part, using antlr and using t= he > > documentation of lilypond. > > Yeah, I gathered as much. Maybe we should wait with this until we see if Erik Sandberg's music-represenation-separating thesis is useful here. Bert |

Yeah, I gathered as much. Now I also understand why you are using htmlparser. I pulled in the tags directory from htmlparser.sf.net, adapted the package and import statements, and it compiled (and ran) fine. > However, I didn't have the time to make the build properties as > configurable as I would like to have. No problem. I actually like the fact that you and Joshua have kept up the good work. > I support using retrotranslator, but I won't have time to deal with it. I can do that, no problem. It really is as easy as "retrotranslator -srcjar LilyPondTool.jar -destjar LilyPondToolNew.jar". Works beautifully as far as I can tell. BTW I had this crazy (speak: wonderful) idea that we could build our own backend a la gnome, only with java as the backend. I'll have to think about it, but my best guess is that we'd open a pipe or a port, and listen for simple graphical commands. I need to work on something different right now, but in a couple of weeks I want to work on this project. Ciao, Dscho |

Compiling the current cvs is quite difficult, because I'm in the middle of a very important rewrite of code completion part, using antlr and using the documentation of lilypond. However, I didn't have the time to make the build properties as configurable as I would like to have. I support using retrotranslator, but I won't have time to deal with it. Hi, while trying to compile the current CVS to get back on track, I discovered a few things: - many warnings because of non-ASCII in the source code. Is this really necessary? (It seems it is that darned Copyright sign...) - I seem to be missing a whole directory: lilytool.org.htmlparser.tags - lily4jedit now *requires* Java 5. There is at least one machine on which I am developing where I cannot upgrade. This is bad. For the last point, I would at least make a release using Retrotranslator (retrotranslator.sf.net) including a copy of retrotranslator-runtime.jar Ciao, Dscho |
