Hi! Finally, the only thing I've been able to do in the last few weeks is ready (it's not that it's difficult, but when you hardly have 30min a day to code, it's not that easy :) As the topic says, I finished a testing version of the moblog plugin that will allow you to post over email. It is even capable of dealing with attachments and it will handle them as if they were resources, etc: http://www.plogworld.org/files/plog-plugin-moblog-20040330.tar.gz Now I only need people to test it, please... It works fine with the Mail client that comes with OSX 10.3 but I would be interested in people testing it with other clients (Outlook, KMail, Evolution, etc), to see if it really works or if it needs some additional modifications to make it work with other clients (hint: it shouldn't) In order to install it, unpack the package in your plog folder. It will add a new plugin to the "Plugin Center" option, so the first thing you have to do is enable the plugin (it doesn't offer any other option at the moment) Next thing, is to set up an email address where you will sent your moblog messages. I have added an additional alias to my /etc/aliases that looks like the following: moblog: | "curl -F message='<-' http://your-plog-host/moblog.php" Then run the 'newaliases' command and try to send an email to the moblog@your-machine (moblog@localhost should also work if you're testing this locally) Don't worry if the email is empty, it should send a help message back with some information. Needless to say, you'll need to have 'curl' installed. I haven't tested with any other similar tool, but it is possible that tools like 'wget' or 'nc' also work. This is the format of the message: USER: your-plog-username PASS: your-plog-password BLOG: your-plog-blog-name TOPIC: topic for the post CATEGORY: name of the category under which the post will be added text of your post The topic of the email message can be anything, it doesn't matter. Obviously, you need to provide a valid username and a password, and the user must belong to the given blog. And the category must also exist (if you give an incorrect category name, it will send a response message with the list of available categories) As I said, it also supports attachments, as many as you want :) I believe it is also possible to use a procmail rule but I haven't test it. If you want to see what's going on, there is a log file called "moblog.php.log" in the root folder of plog where all the debug info is dumped, so have a look at it to see what's going wrong (if you don't get any reply message or something like that) Also, if there's a problem, send that file to me and I'll have a look... Please, again, I just need some testing now... It works fine in my site (http://www.francesc.net/post/2/136) but let's see how it works outside my controlled sandbox :) I am also open to new ideas, suggestions or possible improvements... Thanks a lot, Oscar |
