I agree that we should follow the common design of a panel with all the options on the left and then whatever is needed in the main area of the page. I quite like the design used in pMachine: http://www.pmachine.com/screenshots/images/2.2_main.jpg http://www.pmachine.com/screenshots/images/2.2_newentry.jpg http://www.pmachine.com/screenshots/images/2.2_viewentry.jpg (more here: http://www.pmachine.com/screenshots/) and also Pivotlog is quite nice: http://www.pivotlog.net/help/pics/pivot-help-0009.png http://www.pivotlog.net/help/pics/screenshot_ie_5_kl.png http://www.pivotlog.net/help/pics/pivot-help-0018.png (more here: http://www.pivotlog.net/help/index.php) You can use this page: http://www.opensourcecms.com/index.php, if you want to test any open source CMS or blogging tool (yeah, plog is not there :P) I will gather a list of all the options that should be available and we can think about how to arrange them... I don't think we can have a menu on the left side with 30+ options! If needed, we can also change some workflow/processes to make them work better. Using some CSS would be fine, but I don't think we should rely too much on it, since as we know, is not 100% supported across all browsers. We could also use images/icons to make things not look as dull as they do now :) I will also start doing something as soon as I can.
