Oh, your automake is too old. With the things we use,
automake below 1.6 is unnaceptable, and automake 1.7
at least is heavily recommended (with Dennis we are
using automake 1.8).

Please update your automake or wait until the next release
package, or if you want to keep going develop right now, 
tell me and I will send you a tarball.
