The subject says anough, we have, for all you visualisation freaks. Unleashed the libvisual G-Force port. This astonishing visualisation plugin has an endless variety achieved through it's huge collection of presets. Surely a must have!!! To run the plugin, you need libvisual 0.1.6, and you probably want libvisual-xmms 0.1.6. It's also possibly to use it in amarok through amarok it's libvisual support! All the files can be found at: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=106542 Have fun, The libvisual team. |

Yay, we've finally done it! A new and fresh libvisual release. Get it at: https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=106542 IMPORTANT: Remove the old plugins (%prefix/lib/libvisual/*) BEFORE installing libvisual. The new plugin loader is very much NOT compatible with old plugins! Changes in libvisual: New in 0.1.6: 2004-09-10: * Created the VisParam system that is used for parameters in both libvisual and the plugins. (Dennis) * Completely revamped plugin system that also supports API version check and such. (Dennis, Vitaly) * VisTimer module for both time and timing. (Dennis, Duilio) * VisColor module for color units in a palette and hsv->rgb conversions. (Dennis) * VisMem module for memory related things. (Duilio, Dennis) * Method to check if a morph needs an VisAudio context. (Dennis) * Byteswap macros. (Vitaly, Duilio) * Fix cover art support. (Dennis) * HSV <-> RGB helper functions in VisColor. (Dennis) * Timed morph (Dennis, Duilio) Changes in libvisual-plugins: New in 0.1.6: 2004-09-10: * New ALSA capture input plugin. (Vitaly) * New MPlayer export input plugin. (Gustavo) * New Plazma actor plugin, ported from xmms. (Dennis) * New Jakdaw actor plugin, ported from xmms. (Dennis) * New Bumpscope actor plugin (has issues), ported from xmms. (Dennis) * New GdkPixbuf actor plugin to be used with images. (Dennis) Changes in libvisual-xmms: New in 0.1.6: 2004-09-10: * Use timed morph, so morphs now always take four seconds. This will be adjustable in the future. * You can select which types of plugins you want (gl/normal/both). Changes in libvisual-nebulus: New in 0.1.3: 2004-09-10: * Moved picture data into .bmp files. _____ We're also working hard to finish the G-Force libvisual port, so you people can expect something quite soon! (we've been saying that before). It's worth noticing that amarok uses (abuses, owyeah) us! More information about this excelent piece of work http://amarok.sf.net Also the author of LiVES if working on realtime/non realtime video intergration through a libvisual/livido wrapper (Using libvisual as a plugin within livido). (hint: VJing). We will start on a library called libvisual-display (that suprisingly) helps regarding display libvisual on screens. This will include a complete display target abstraction layer that uses plugins (x11, aalib, sdl, framebuffer, svgalib, GL). But that is not all! We also have plans to support 'superbuffers' that basicly mean stretching out visuals over multiply displays (which could mean dual head width visuals so to say). Or other nifty stuff! We still need help regarding the website, it's the suck and we're not going to change that ! Ofcourse thanks a lot to all who helped! Thanks goes especially to Duilio, Vitaly and Gustavo for their ongoing contributions! (these people including me are teh die hard libvisual team!). Also thanks to the amarok people for interests, suggestions and ofcourse for supporting us! Thanks to Salsaman for his interests in video intergration! It's something that kept me thinking for a while and now someone that actually has clue about realtime video and video editing is taking a bite at it! Cheers, Dennis |

Heya! I've been doing the first public release tonight. Released are: libvisual-0.1.3: 2004-05-27 Dennis Smit <ds...@ne...> Version 0.1.3 has been released. * Install lv_log.h * Lots and lots of work on the managed bin. * Managed bin now seamlessly automaticly morphs from whatever to whatever. (Ok i lied here, the managed bin needs a rewrite, but it SEEMS to work) * Better support for openGL. * Have requisition method for the actor plugins. * Pass audio to the morph plugins. * Don't open the plugins with RTL_GLOBAL. libvisual-plugins-0.1.3: 2004-05-27 Dennis Smit <ds...@ne...> * Added a madspin port. * Fixed all the actor plugins to support size requisition (this is mandatory btw). * Added support for retrieving VisAudio within the morph plugins. * Cleanups. libvisual-xmms-0.1.3: 2004-05-27 Dennis Smit <ds...@ne...> Version 0.1.3 has been released. * Depth notification from the managed bin. And i've also released the new libvisual-nebulus openGL plugin which is a port from the xmms one. Notes on the managed bin stuff: It's borked, it's without succes, it's there to be rewritten, utterly shit and i basicly screwed up. However you won't really see this without abusing it, so i released anyway. Why did i release, because i felt like releasing, it's without doubt beta if not alpha, but i think it's ready for public experimentation! Cheers, Dennis |

Hello Benno, I'll look at the questions!, The research is a nice idea, especially when you consinder that the motivation for writting software in the opensource world isn't commercial, most of that time. Dear Open Source developer I am doing a research project on "Fun and Software Development" in which I kindly invite you to participate. You will find the online survey under http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/. The questionnaire consists of 53 questions and you will need about 15 minutes to complete it. With the FASD project (Fun and Software Development) we want to define the motivational significance of fun when software developers decide to engage in Open Source projects. What is special about our research project is that a similar survey is planned with software developers in commercial firms. This procedure allows the immediate comparison between the involved individuals and the conditions of production of these two development models. Thus we hope to obtain substantial new insights to the phenomenon of Open Source Development. With many thanks for your participation, Benno Luthiger PS: The results of the survey will be published under http://www.isu.unizh.ch/fuehrung/blprojects/FASD/. We have set up the mailing list fa...@we... for this study. Heya it's that time of the year again when the birds sing louder! (because of reproduction reasons...). Aka libvisual, libvisual-plugins, libvisual-xmms 0.1.2 has been released. In theory these are still snapshots and in no way API/ABI stable. __ Availability: http://libvisual.sourceforge.net/snapshots/libvisual-0.1.2.tar.gz http://libvisual.sourceforge.net/snapshots/libvisual-plugins-0.1.2.tar.gz http://libvisual.sourceforge.net/snapshots/libvisual-xmms-0.1.2.tar.gz __ Notes: * OpenGL plugins won't work in the xmms plugin. The reason for this is that the managed bin doesn't yet propogate required depth to the application. * Sample applications, xmms plugin need cleanups because of the API changes. * When using libvisual and use pkg-config to configure (which ofcourse you should always do), use '=' as version compare, because we're not API, ABI stable. Event stuff: Libvisual now has an event system that is modelled after SDLevent. The best way to look at how it works is by looking at the goom plugin, it has a complete example included. You need to have an event handler because resizes will also go through the event system. __ ChangeLogs: Libvisual: 2004-05-13 Dennis Smit <ds...@ne...> Version 0.1.2 has been released. * Morph plugins (transistion between actors). * Event layer for both keyboard, mouse, song change, resolution change. * Songinfo system which can be used to set and read songinfo so you can draw text with the song name in visuals (i already fixed this up for the goom plugin, worked out of the box!) * The Bin is extended a lot, and i added support for managed bins, where a bin creates it's own actor and input so you don't have to manage those, also you can morph to a new actor using the bin as simple as 'visual_bin_switch_actor (bin, actor)' or 'visual_bin_switch_actor_by_name (bin, name_of_actor)'. * Fixed the issues regarding resize. * Have a visual_init and visual_quit, libvisual manages the plugin registry itself now. * New plugin layer, instead of a loader for every type there is now an universal plugin loader that wraps the different types in a VisPlugin type. * Some small stuff. Libvisual-plugins: 2004-05-13 Dennis Smit <ds...@ne...> Version 0.1.2 has been released. * Bug fixes. * Added some morph plugins. Libvisual-xmms: 2004-05-13 Dennis Smit <ds...@ne...> Version 0.1.2 has been released. * Ported to the new managed bin stuff. * Morph to an actor on actor change. * Implement events. * Implement songinfo. __ Please test and report back how things are working! Also, the package as they are, are they packaged the way the should be this way ?, i'm not entirely sure so if someone could comment on this that would be great. Cheers, Dennis (ps. i'll be gone for the weekend) |

Hello people, I've written most of the xmms libvisual plugin this afternoon and it's available at libvisual.sf.net It'll need the latest snapshots of libvisual and libsdl + the ussual xmms stuff. Resize is borked due to libvisual borkage, will be fixed in the 0.1 release. To switch visual plugins press 'a' or 's' within the plugin window. >PLEASE< test. I haven't yet seen a test report and i'd really like to know how things are working. Cheers, Dennis |

I've released libvisual and libvisual-plugins 0.1-pre3: What is new ? Libvisual: Some minor buildtree fixes in libvisual. Libvisual-plugins: Major buildtree fixes and cleanups, it's now detecting all needed libs, compiling only stuff that it can compile etc etc. __ To compile goom you'll need an not yet released goom version, so wait a few days for that :) *** This needs testing, the build trees won't change much for 0.1 *** Please test and report back how these two packages are doing, they're avaiable at http://libvisual.sf.net Cheers, Dennis |

0.1 pre2 online. Some quick fixes to fix building and compiling! Cheers, Dennis |
From: Dennis S. <sy...@yo...> - 2004-04-13 23:58:39

I have put online the 0.1 pre1 snapshots for both libvisual and libvisual-plugins. They can be found at http://libvisual.sf.net Both packages are now almost completely auto* ready and libvisual generates an pkg-config file. To be done before 0.1 libvisual-plugins: More and better library detection to see which plugins can be build. Small bugfixes. libvisual: Fix the transparant size negotation stuff, it's very much broken right now. If you see crashes and weirdness on resizes using some plugins, it's because of this. A bit more auto* stuff. Bugfixes ___ libvisual-plugins build will probably fail while building when libgoom2k4-devel-15 isn't present. Either download this or work around the error by hand. Please test and report back other problems! Cheers, Dennis |
