Hey Brian, Yeh not about shifting to to CentOS 4.2. However what I'm gathering is that because RH9 uses 2.4 kernel its going to be very difficult to access the USB controller? However with CentOS 4.2 uses 2.6 which make life alot easier to access the controller. What about using fedora which uses the 2.6 kernel? Ive been asked to control the USB controller to disable and enable the bus and grab stats etc. I honestly didnt think it would be that difficult....am I wrong...I guess its relative? Reason: evolution/change taking place in the 2.6 kernel used in CentOS 4.x (which is RHEL 4.x for free) is 1: rapid 2: affecting USB frequently Meanwhile, Red Hat 9 (with the 2.4 kernel) is not supported, no growth, only limited security bug fixes backported, it's dead, Jim. If you have lots of stuff already under RH9, then moving to CentOS 4.2 is not trivial. RH9 ships with the 2.96 gcc while CentOS 4.1 ships with gcc 3.4. I have found that code that compiles clean without warning under 2.96 fails to compile under 3.4! So, if you give more info on what you're doing we can give more helpful pointers. Can somebody get me started on where I can begin. I want to be able to access the USB controller on I386 architecture.
