Maybe this will help, though I don't use Vista. But recently my PCs developed a usb issue (extreme delay, can't "find" COMXX one second after opening it a second before) on virtual serial ports, when trying to program Sun SPOT devices. After un-installing Bluesoleil Bluetooth drivers, and libusb (the BT driver turned out to be the problem, exacerbated by RXTX polling through an enumeration of all UARTs even BT virtual devices), my hardware UART on a T43 notebook would no longer work with any serial program at all. The not obvious solution was to uninstall the COMX driver in Device Manager (this is WinXP), then reboot. WinXP then loads a new and uncorrupted copy from its cache of such things. Now it works OK. I have had to take a similar tack with USB virtual serial ports. Maybe this will work for your problem too - uninstall all the affected USB devices and then reboot and see if that restores things to a virgin state. best regards Bruce Boyes ------- WWW.SYSTRONIX.COM ---------- Real embedded Java and much more +1-801-534-1017 Salt Lake City, USA |
