I wouldn't recommend actually shorting it for any length of time but if you stick resistor across two of the pins (I think the middle two) it should stay on for about five minutes, at least the ones I tried do. I think the grips have some sort of identification with the firmware (since I /think/ they released a firmware update when the pistol grip came out, for example, but I may be making that up).
