Same "PTP_ERROR_IO: failed to open session, trying again after resetting USB interface" error when trying to connect to my Galaxy Note II under Debian/unstable.
I've tried again, and I no longer get the error. But I did a software update (and installed Terminal IDE) on my phone, and the USB cable was unplugged then plugged in again.
Hm so there was maybe some bug in the firmware after all?
