My Spyder-3 was not properly working, using lsusb shows that it is continuously passing from connected and disconnected status. This was also confirmed by the log messages.
Seems very similar to:
http://www.mail-archive.com/debian-bugs-dist@lists.debian.org/msg900739.html
I've workaround that by renaming /lib/udev/mtp-probe.
Now my Spyder-3 is working fine and I was able to calibrate my screen.
I'm using GNU/Debian unstable/sid where the libmtp-runtime is at version 1.0.6-6.

This is fixed in upstream libmtp by this commit:

Can you see if this works for you and/or report to the Debian package maintainer?

Ok thanks for the feedbacks, will wait for next version of the Debian package.
mtp-probe creates an endless loop of devices found for my ColorVision Spyder3. I have the latest version (1.1.0) installed on Arch Linux. See here for more details:
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=939055#p939055
I need more info on this problematic device (ColorVision)
Can you please provide the output from "lsusb -vv" for this device?
The fix is far from sufficient, since it uses a simple heuristic (no of end points != 3).
Many non-media USB devices will have 3 end points.
Devices of Vendor Specific Class USB devices should not be being accessed by libmtp unless they are on a white list of VID & PID.
From reports I've received about libmtp interfering with Color instruments, it seems to have other problems in that even when it has accessed a device and
decided it is not media related, it keeps accessing it on a regular basis, preventing the
legitimate drivers from opening it reliably.
Please fix all these problems as a matter of urgency.
I talked to some people of linux-usb and I think we have this sorted out now. Use the udev scripts from libmtp 1.1.1 for a resolution...
