I've the same problem exactly the same issue with a Samsung Galaxy A6.
I confirm this Bug problem using libmtp (latest release) with a Samsung Galaxy A6.
The second time i try to open a PTP Session with the device, i get a PTP_RC_GeneralError:
Apparently the previous session is closed correctly.
I can open a new session after i reset the usb connection.
Any ideas?
Thank you.

or perhaps another process is also accessign the device in parallel likle gvfs /( nautilus
Marcus, yes, I'm seeing the dialog pop up on my phone and pressing accept. Also Dolphin (KDE equivalent of Nautilus) is trying to access the phone.
