Why not to provide some environment, so that we don't have to figure out all the compilation options over and over again? I created: http://code.google.com/p/libmeshpetscpackage/ with scripts to compile petsc, slepc, arpack and libmesh CVS (from today). Does anyone use arpack with slepc? The solver gets stuck (CPU on 100%, never ends), when I link slepc with arpack (but use slepc solver for solving, not arpack), but when I run the same solver without arpack linked, it works fine.
