What's the scenario ?
insmod input
insmod serio
insmod serport
insmod iforce
inputattach
<switch on joystick>

You *must* allways switch the stick on *before* starting inputattach. I 
will try to have a look at what happens when timeouts occur, though. 
That should never corrupt memory.
